In the past I've sent gentle notes to tree owners suggesting that there might be an error and then explaining why I think some entry they have is not correct. Only rarely did anyone respond, and even more rare was a thank you and an acknowledgement of the error. Most people didn't respond and, of course, did not change their trees. But it's worth a try! Good luck!Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15720293202890878993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826248344207578284.post-73157394796889690572018-01-18T13:31:36.919-05:002018-01-18T13:31:36.919-05:00You raise a really important point, Amy, and it...You raise a really important point, Amy, and it's one that I was particularly concerned about given that there's near uniformity in the online trees that Nancy Moore is Thomas' daughter. I have two tactics that I'm undertaking:

1. I administer a Facebook group of Thomas' descendants who are generally more engaged in the family history. I've submitted a post making my case for the real daughter being Anna (Kirk) Rhodes, and asked folks to update accordingly or ask me questions.

2. Next, for Ancestry (the bigger beast), I think I can add a comment to public member trees and I may try to do this where I find Nancy Moore mistakenly linked as a daughter to Thomas with a hyperlink to this blog entry.

It's a challenge for sure, but I'm hopeful this will make a bit of a dent in things.Family Sleutherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11584864778317578299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826248344207578284.post-494647012378811262018-01-15T18:46:28.384-05:002018-01-15T18:46:28.384-05:00Outstanding work, Michael! Now how do you prevent future researchers from relying on those incorrect trees? I face this often and even when I've alerted the tree owners of an error, it seems to get ignored, and more people continue to repeat the mistake. It's exciting - the genealogy high - when the clues lead to one another and support your theory like they did in Anna's case.

What's comical is that I had to put my research on hold until I could review the pension file in the National Archives, which was painful. Then I discovered that the file was digitized and sitting on Fold3 all along. A forced respite. :) Family Sleutherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11584864778317578299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826248344207578284.post-14199032676793631382018-01-15T05:17:42.421-05:002018-01-15T05:17:42.421-05:00Congratulations, Michael.
